The Ogun State Government has disclosed that popular social welfare activist, Adetoun Onajobi, widely known as Just Adetoun, has allegedly gone into hiding following serious allegations she made against Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Jamisi News gathered that the development comes amid reports that a medical doctor accused of issuing a falsified medical report to support the activist’s claims has been arrested and remanded in prison.
Confirming the development, the Ogun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, said the Nigeria Police Force has filed a six-count charge against the activist. According to him, the charges followed a formal petition submitted by the state government over what it described as defamatory statements made by Adetoun in December 2025.
The controversy reportedly arose from a road accident involving world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, in Ogun State. The activist was said to have used the incident to accuse the state’s emergency response agencies and Governor Abiodun of negligence.
According to the Attorney General, Adetoun went further to allege that the governor was outside the country, specifically in Ghana, engaging in immoral activities instead of attending to his official responsibilities.
“She accused the Governor of Ogun State of being in Ghana partying and impregnating women rather than focusing on governance and the welfare of the injured boxer,” the Attorney General’s office stated.
The Ogun State Government described the allegations as false, malicious and capable of inciting public unrest, warning that such statements could undermine governance and public confidence in leadership.
Authorities said the legal action was taken to address the spread of unverified and damaging information, stressing that while freedom of expression is a constitutional right, it does not protect individuals from the consequences of defamatory claims.
The state government also revealed that a medical doctor allegedly collaborated with the activist by issuing a falsified medical report to give weight to her claims. The doctor has reportedly been detained and remanded in prison as investigations continue.
Legal experts say the case reflects the increasing challenges posed by misinformation and unregulated social media activism in Nigeria. While activism is vital to democratic accountability, they warn that spreading false personal allegations against public officials may attract legal consequences.
The Ogun State Government has urged citizens to exercise caution when sharing unverified information online and advised activists to engage responsibly, noting that freedom of speech must be balanced with truth and public order.
As of the time of filing this report, Adetoun Onajobi has yet to issue any public statement on the matter. However, sources close to her claim she has gone underground amid mounting legal pressure.
The state government has assured residents that the case is being handled in line with due process, reiterating its commitment to the rule of law and the protection of public peace.
