Former United States Vice President Kamala Harris has accused President Donald Trump of steering the United States toward a war with Iran that she says lacks public backing and poses serious risks to global stability.
In a statement posted on Sunday via her X account, Harris warned that the country was being drawn into what she described as a “regime-change war,” cautioning that such a conflict could endanger American service members and undermine the nation’s international standing.
“Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want,” Harris said, adding that U.S. troops were being placed in harm’s way “for the sake of Trump’s war of choice.”
She characterized the prospect of military escalation as “a dangerous and unnecessary gamble with American lives,” warning that it could further destabilize the Middle East and weaken America’s position on the global stage. According to Harris, the current posture reflects “recklessness dressed up as resolve,” rather than genuine strength.
While acknowledging Iran as a security concern and maintaining that the country must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, Harris argued that military action was not the appropriate response. She also dismissed Trump’s past assertions about ending wars and dismantling Iran’s nuclear programme, describing them as misleading.
The former vice president reiterated her support for U.S. troops deployed on high-risk missions, stressing that they deserve leadership that approaches decisions on war and peace with caution, discipline, and responsibility.
Harris further pointed to constitutional provisions, insisting that any decision to go to war must receive congressional authorization. She argued that even with such approval, a military confrontation with Iran would remain unjustified and unwise.
Calling for urgent legislative action, Harris urged Congress to exercise its full powers to prevent further escalation, saying Americans, U.S. allies, and service members “deserve nothing less.”
