Fayose Calls for Prayers Over Wike–Fubara Rift, Urges Reconciliation
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described the ongoing political crisis between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as one that requires divine intervention to resolve.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television, Fayose said the rift has gone beyond political negotiations, stressing that only fasting and prayers could now save the Rivers governor from the looming consequences of the crisis.
Fayose advised Governor Fubara to seek reconciliation with Wike, adding that he hopes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will step in to calm tensions and guide the governor away from danger.
According to the former governor, Fubara bears responsibility for the crisis, accusing him of failing to honour agreements reached in Abuja.
“Many prayers would be said to save Fubara. So many fasts and prayers would be the only thing that would save Fubara in this one,” Fayose said.
“My prayer is that God will enter his mind. The President will help calm him down, to remind him of the danger. One will be in his house before he realises the danger.”
The crisis in Rivers State has deepened following the prolonged standoff between Governor Fubara and the State House of Assembly over his inability to present the 2026 budget.
Lawmakers have since commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor, accusing him of expending state funds without legislative approval.
A majority of the Rivers lawmakers are believed to be loyal to Minister Wike, who has openly opposed Fubara’s re-election bid.
Wike had earlier accused the governor of reneging on the peace agreement brokered by President Tinubu, which led to the lifting of the emergency rule in the state and paved the way for Fubara’s return to office.
