APC Stalwart Warns Makinde: Stop ‘Anti-Tinubu Rhetoric’ or Risk Political Isolation
IBADAN, January 28, 2026 — A leading chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Engr. Oyedele Hakeem Alao, on Wednesday delivered a stinging rebuke to Governor Seyi Makinde over what he described as the governor’s unrelenting criticism of President Bola Tinubu and his administration.
Addressing journalists in Ibadan, Alao accused Makinde of being “an ungrateful political actor” who has severed ties with key figures that supported his re-election bid — including President Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Alao argued that Makinde’s attempts to paint the Tinubu administration as unresponsive to the needs of Oyo State are false and politically motivated, pointing instead to federal interventions — including a ₦50 billion special relief package — as evidence of commitment to the state’s welfare.
“The question then is what does Governor Makinde want from the President? Does he expect to be treated like an emperor?” Alao asked, accusing the governor of abandoning cooperative governance for partisan posturing.
He further challenged Makinde’s stance on local government autonomy, suggesting that reluctance to devolve authority has undermined grassroots development in Oyo State — a critique he contrasted with past leadership models that empowered local councils.
Alao’s comments mark a sharp escalation in the political sparring ahead of Nigeria’s highly anticipated 2027 elections, as tensions between governing party loyalists and opposition figures continue to deepen.
