Alao Mourns Passing Of Olubadan Of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Engr Oyedele Hakeem Alao popularly called Allow Alao has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away in the early hours of today Monday, July 7, 2024.
In a condolence message personally signed and released through his media office, Engr. Alao described the late monarch as a “man of peace, dignity, and fatherly wisdom” who served Ibadanland with honor during his brief but impactful reign.
“The news of the passing of our highly revered royal father, His Imperial Majesty Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, came to me with great shock and sadness. The entire city of Ibadan and Oyo State at large has lost a symbol of tradition, unity, and guidance,” Alao said.
He noted that although Oba Olakulehin reigned for only about a year, his legacy of calm leadership and commitment to cultural preservation will remain cherished by generations to come.
“That Kabiyesi was able to ascend the throne at the age of 89 and still celebrate his 90th birthday just days before his passing is a testimony to a fulfilled and purposeful life. He has joined our ancestors at a time when his wisdom was most needed, but we remain grateful for his life and service to the land,” he added.
Alao commiserated with the Olubadan-in-Council, the people of Ibadanland, and the Oyo State Government, praying that God grants them the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
He also called on the people of Ibadan to remain united and prayerful as the process of selecting a new monarch begins, urging continued respect for tradition and peace in the land.
“May the soul of our beloved Oba rest in perfect peace, and may Ibadan continue to flourish under divine guidance,” the statement concluded.
