Adamu Denies Defection to ADC, Dismisses Report as Social Media Falsehood

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has categorically denied reports alleging that he has defected to the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Reacting to the claims in an interview with New Telegraph on Thursday, Adamu described the report as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt by social media actors to attract attention.
“I am not an ungrateful politician,” Adamu stated firmly, stressing his loyalty and commitment to his political journey and the party he has served at the highest level.
Adamu, a two-term Governor of Nasarawa State and former Senator, boasts a long and distinguished political career. He previously served under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he held the position of Secretary of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He later became a key figure in the formation of the APC, contributing significantly to its rise to national prominence. In 2022, Adamu emerged as the party’s National Chairman, a position he held until his removal in 2023, shortly after the general election that produced President Bola Tinubu.
Reports circulating online had claimed that Adamu’s alleged defection to the ADC was driven by internal crises within the APC, citing months of dissatisfaction and quiet consultations. The report further suggested that such a move would deal a major blow to the ruling party, given Adamu’s influence since the APC’s formation in 2015.
However, the former APC chairman outrightly rejected the narrative, saying: “Don’t mind the social media reporter. They want to draw me out, but I have nothing to tell anybody. I am not an ungrateful politician. I served at the highest level of my party, and I am where I am today.”
During his tenure as APC National Chairman, Adamu was a notable supporter of Senate President Ahmed Lawan’s presidential ambition on the APC platform.
