NJC Recommends 14 Lawyers for Appointment as Federal High Court Judges
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended 14 lawyers to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as judges of the Federal High Court.
The recommendation followed the NJC’s 110th meeting held in January and presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. At the meeting, the council considered and approved the names of 14 successful candidates for elevation to the Federal High Court bench.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the council explained that the recommendations were initially delayed due to the unavailability of security reports on the candidates at the time of the meeting.
According to the NJC, the submission of the candidates’ names to the President was deferred pending the receipt and review of the required security clearance.
“Having received the security report, with no adverse comments on any of the recommended candidates, the council on Thursday, January 22, 2026, forwarded the names of the candidates to Mr President for appointment,” the statement said.
The 14 candidates recommended to the President include the incumbent Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, Suleiman Amida Hassan, as well as Muhammad Barau Saidu, Igboko Chinelo Conchita, Onuegbu Chioma Angela, Galumje Edingah, Ibrahim Vera Eneabo, Abubakar Musa Usman, and Salihu Aisha Yunusa.
Others are Ikpeme Joy Bassey, Shehu Umaru Adamu, Mohammed Ibrahim Buba, Eigege-Binjin Nendelmum Judith, Usoro Kuyik Uduak, and Nwoye Osinachi Donatus.
The appointments, once approved by the President, are expected to strengthen the capacity of the Federal High Court in the administration of justice across the country.
