Wike Vows to Block Fubara’s Re-election Bid in 2027

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly declared his resolve to frustrate the re-election of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, ahead of the 2027 general election.

Wike made the statement on Sunday during a visit to Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he dismissed claims that he could be pressured or instructed to support Fubara’s second-term ambition.

According to the former Rivers State governor, Governor Fubara repeatedly breached agreements reached between them, insisting that the political miscalculation of the 2023 election would not be repeated.

Wike stressed that no individual or authority has the power to issue him directives concerning Rivers State politics, describing such claims as unrealistic and misleading.

He further maintained that his position as FCT Minister does not place him under any obligation to compromise his political stance, adding that he remains personally comfortable and fulfilled in his current role.

Reflecting on his time as governor, Wike said Rivers State commanded national respect under his leadership, noting that the state boldly challenged the Federal Government on critical issues and prevailed. He lamented what he described as the collapse of opposition voices in the state, questioning why the current leadership only began emphasizing its electoral mandate after losing political footing.
