Wike Warns Senator Basiru to Steer Clear of Rivers Politics
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to Senator Ajibola Basiru, cautioning him against interfering in the political affairs of Rivers State following his public comments in support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Wike delivered the warning while addressing his supporters in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he declared the state off-limits to what he described as political “outsiders.”
Reacting sharply to Basiru’s remarks, the former Rivers State governor warned against taking the support of Rivers leaders for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for granted.
“Don’t take our support for Mr President for granted. You have to be very careful with the statements you make,” Wike said.
In a strongly worded address, the FCT minister described Rivers State as a political “no-go area,” warning that anyone who attempts to meddle in its affairs should be ready to face the consequences.
“When Mr President comes back, when I see the Minister of Blue Economy, I will tell them to tell him – if you carry your hand to Rivers State and your hand burns, don’t say it was me that burned it,” he warned.
Wike further declared his readiness to confront any political interference, insisting that Rivers State would not tolerate external provocations.
“I can challenge anybody. This state is a no-go area whether you like it or not. Go and ask those who have tried it before. If you open your mouth to talk about Rivers State, anything you see, take it,” he added.
The minister also accused unnamed political actors of making what he described as “unnecessary noise” over Rivers politics, urging them to focus on their own political territories.
“So take the one you have taken and stop making unnecessary noise,” he said.
Senator Ajibola Basiru had earlier made comments backing Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, a move that appears to have further heightened the already charged political atmosphere in the state.
