President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to avoid violence and division as the party begins primary elections across the country ahead of the 2027 political cycle.
Speaking during meetings with party stakeholders, Tinubu described the primaries as an important test of the APC’s unity and internal democracy. He warned politicians against turning the process into a “do-or-die affair,” stressing that peace and discipline must remain priorities within the ruling party.
The President’s appeal comes at a time of rising tension in several states, where reports of protests, disagreements, and power struggles among party factions have already surfaced. In some areas, aspirants and supporters accused party officials of bias and manipulation during delegate selection processes.
Political analysts believe the growing competition inside the APC reflects increasing pressure among politicians seeking influence ahead of future elections. Despite remaining Nigeria’s dominant political party, internal rivalries continue to challenge the APC’s stability in key states.
Party leaders have called on members to respect the outcome of the primaries and resolve disputes through legal and party channels instead of violence.
The APC is expected to continue its internal elections in the coming weeks as preparations for future governorship and legislative contests intensify nationwide.
