Adeboye Urges Government to Give Security Chiefs 90-Day Deadline Against Terrorism

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has called on the Federal Government to impose a 90-day deadline on Nigeria’s security chiefs to eliminate terrorism or step down from office. The statement has sparked widespread political and public debate as concerns over insecurity continue to grow across the country.  

In a video shared on his official social media platforms, Adeboye expressed frustration over persistent terrorist attacks, kidnappings, banditry, and killings in several parts of Nigeria. He argued that those entrusted with national security should be held accountable for measurable results rather than routine assurances.  

According to the respected cleric, the government should adopt a results-oriented approach by giving security chiefs a clear timeline to defeat terrorist groups. He suggested that if significant progress is not achieved within 90 days, those responsible for leading the country’s security operations should vacate their positions.  

Adeboye also urged authorities to focus not only on terrorists themselves but on those who finance and support their activities. He argued that sponsors of terrorism should be identified and prosecuted regardless of their political influence, social status, or connections within the country.  

The remarks come at a time when insecurity remains one of Nigeria’s most pressing national challenges. Several recent incidents involving kidnappings, attacks on rural communities, and terrorist activities have intensified public criticism of security agencies and increased demands for stronger government action.  

Political analysts believe Adeboye’s intervention carries significant weight because of his influence among millions of Nigerians. Religious leaders have increasingly become vocal on issues of governance, security, and national development, reflecting growing public frustration with the country’s security situation.  

Supporters of the proposal argue that setting performance deadlines could improve accountability within the security sector and encourage more aggressive action against terrorist networks. Critics, however, contend that terrorism is a complex challenge that may not be fully resolved within a fixed timeframe, regardless of the capabilities of security agencies.  

As Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections, security is expected to remain a dominant political issue. Calls for accountability from influential figures such as Adeboye are likely to increase pressure on the government to demonstrate progress in combating terrorism and restoring public confidence in the nation’s security institutions.
