Time For A New Dawn: Why Akin Alabi Should Not Seek A Third Term And Why Ona-Ara Deserves A Turn.
By Alhaji Maruf Oladeji

In the heart of Oyo State lies the vibrant and diverse Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency—a constituency blessed with immense potential, rich culture, and ambitious people. For the past two terms, we have been ably represented at the federal level by Hon. Akin Alabi, a man whose presence on the political scene has left a mark. However, as we look toward the future, we must ask ourselves: Is it time for a new chapter?
The answer, for many of us, is a resounding yes.
Democracy Demands Rotation
Democracy thrives on fairness, equity, and inclusiveness. The Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency is a union of two strong and unique local government areas. It was never meant to be a platform for permanent political dominance by one side. Egbeda has proudly produced Hon. Akin Alabi for two consecutive terms. Now, equity and justice call for power to shift to Ona-Ara.
“Turn by turn” is not just a political slogan—it is the moral compass that ensures everyone has a seat at the table. To ignore this principle is to sow division, apathy, and resentment among constituents. It is time for the people of Ona-Ara to rise and offer fresh, dynamic leadership that reflects their own aspirations.
Two Terms Is Enough for One Man
While Hon. Akin Alabi has served with diligence, two terms in office should be enough for any representative to contribute meaningfully. The Nigerian constitution does not limit the number of terms a legislator can serve, but conscience, fairness, and democratic values must guide us beyond what is legally allowed.
After two terms, new ideas are needed. New energy. New vision. Public office is not a personal entitlement—it is a call to serve, and sometimes the greatest service a leader can offer is to step aside for the next generation.
The Power of Fresh Representation
Ona-Ara is not lacking in competent, visionary, and capable individuals who can take up the mantle of leadership. We need a representative who understands the unique needs of Ona-Ara and can balance the collective interests of both local governments.
A representative from Ona-Ara will bring a fresh perspective, new developmental priorities, and renewed passion for service. This is not about tribalism or sentiment—it is about fair representation and the continuous rejuvenation of our democratic institutions.
A Call to Unity and Progress
This is not a call for division, but for balance. It is a plea for unity through equity. Let Egbeda support Ona-Ara now, just as Ona-Ara stood in solidarity during the tenure of Akin Alabi. Let us forge a stronger constituency by honoring the unspoken agreement that has kept our politics just and our people hopeful.
Let us not recycle leadership endlessly but embrace the strength of our diversity and the beauty of new beginnings. Egbeda has had its time. Now, it is Ona-Ara’s turn to rise.
Egbeda has had its turn. Twice. Now, it’s Ona-Ara’s time.
We appreciate Hon. Akin Alabi’s two-term service, but democracy demands fairness, balance, and rotation.
Let’s give Ona-Ara a fresh voice in the House of Representatives—someone with new ideas, new energy, and a deep understanding of our community’s needs.
