Political Heavyweights Storm Yar’Adua Centre As Opposition Coalition Charts 2027 Strategy

Abuja, Nigeria – In a significant move that signals a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, prominent Nigerian political figures have converged at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja for a high-level coalition meeting under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Leading the pack of opposition leaders are Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential flagbearer; Malam Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State; and Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation.
The meeting also witnessed the presence of respected statesmen including Senator David Mark, a former Senate President who has now been appointed as the interim national chairman of the ADC, following his resignation from the PDP. Also taking up a leadership role in the new coalition is Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun State governor and former Minister of Interior, who has been named the interim national secretary of the party.

Representatives from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), PDP, Labour Party, and other progressive blocs are also participating, lending weight and legitimacy to what is being described as a grand coalition for democratic renewal.
According to sources close to the movement, the coalition has officially adopted the ADC as its political platform to present a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2027 elections.
Senator David Mark is expected to lead the coalition’s leadership into the main auditorium to formally kick off the media conference, where the coalition’s agenda, strategy, and vision for a reformed Nigeria will be unveiled.
