Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have agreed to adopt a zoning arrangement ahead of the party’s nationwide state congress scheduled for Tuesday.
The decision was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday at the party’s state secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, according to a statement issued by the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Olawale Sadare.
Sadare said an ad hoc zoning committee was constituted at the meeting to allocate positions in the State Executive Committee among the party’s 33 local government chapters.
The committee is chaired by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, with Mr Afeez Bolaji Repete serving as secretary. Other members include Idris Adeoye, Adesoji Adedeji, Ajiboye Sangogade, and Akeem Olatunji.
Commending party members for their commitment to peace and internal harmony, the Oyo APC leadership urged stakeholders to sustain the momentum as preparations intensify toward the 2027 general elections.
“In line with the directives of the national leadership of our great party, stakeholders have agreed to maintain the consensus approach that ensured the successful conduct of the ward and local government congresses, now that it is the turn of the state congress,” Sadare said.
He disclosed that the Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle-led ad hoc zoning committee has commenced work and that within hours, each local government chapter will be informed of the position allocated to its representative on the State Executive Committee.
Sadare added that once the information is communicated by the state secretariat, stakeholders in each of the 33 local government areas are expected to meet and submit the names of their nominees for mandatory screening by a special team from Abuja.
“To this end, we urge leaders across the 33 local government areas to ensure that the best candidates are presented for nomination, as only the best is good for our great party,” he said.
The APC spokesperson expressed confidence that the nomination and screening processes would be completed within the stipulated timeframe, noting that the unveiling and inauguration of the new State Executive Committee would take place on Tuesday at the main bowl of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium.
He called on all stakeholders within the Oyo APC to work collectively in the overall interest of the party to ensure a successful and credible congress.
