Ondo Vice Principal Brutally Attacked for Resisting Examination Malpractice
In a disturbing incident in Ondo State, a secondary school vice principal, Mr. Rotifa, was assaulted after taking a firm stand against examination malpractice.
According to Daily Report Nigeria, the ordeal began on May 26 during the ongoing WASSCE exams, when Mr. Rotifa caught an SS3 student with an Android phone — a clear violation of the school’s examination rules. The phone was promptly confiscated.
Tensions escalated on Thursday when the student’s mother stormed the school, confronting the management aggressively. Under pressure, the school proprietor instructed that the phone be returned to her.
Shortly after, the student’s brother — a former student of the school — arrived and allegedly threatened Mr. Rotifa. Later that day, the group was spotted loitering nearby, prompting the proprietor to advise Mr. Rotifa to report the threat to the police.
Acting on the report, two police officers accompanied Mr. Rotifa in a patrol van to locate the suspects. However, on their return trip to the station, the group ambushed the van, forcefully pulled Mr. Rotifa out, and assaulted him.
He was rushed to a hospital and has since been discharged, though he remains in hiding out of fear of further attacks.
The school’s principal confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that additional measures are being put in place to safeguard both staff and students throughout the remainder of the WASSCE exams.
