“Olubadan-in-Council Unanimously Nominates Senator Rashidi Ladoja as 44th Olubadan Of Ibadanland”
Ibadan, Oyo State – In a historic decision, the Olubadan-in-Council has formally nominated former Oyo State Governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The nomination, which took place on Monday at the Oke-Aremo Palace of the Olubadan, was moved by the Balogun Olubadan, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, and seconded by the Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole.
Speaking after the council’s unanimous decision, Oba Ajibola confirmed that every member of the Olubadan-in-Council had signed off on Ladoja’s nomination. He added that the council would now forward Ladoja’s name to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for formal approval.
Governor Makinde is expected to ratify the nomination, after which the coronation date will be announced, culminating in the presentation of the Staff and Certificate of Office to the new Olubadan.
This nomination comes shortly after the conclusion of the traditional 21-day mourning period for the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 2025, after a brief one-year reign. Oba Olakulehin had succeeded Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
With this development, Ibadanland awaits the official proclamation and coronation of Senator Rashidi Ladoja, a revered political figure and respected traditional leader, marking a new chapter in the rich history of the ancient city.
