Idahagbon Urges Wike to Hands Off Rivers Politics, Governance
Former Attorney General of Edo State, Henry Idahagbon, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to refrain from interfering in the political and administrative affairs of Rivers State.
Idahagbon made the appeal while speaking during an interview on Channels Television, where he aligned with the position earlier expressed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, advising Wike to stay away from Rivers State politics.
According to Idahagbon, Governor Siminalayi Fubara should be allowed to freely manage the governance of the state without external interference, adding that such an arrangement would still allow Fubara to acknowledge Wike’s status as the political leader in the state.
He also weighed in on the controversial agreement reportedly entered into by Wike and Governor Fubara, stressing that discussions around the agreement remain speculative since its details have not been made public.
“Wike should take the advice of Basiru: hands off the management of both the politics and governance of Rivers State. Let him allow Fubara to handle the affairs of Rivers State; Fubara, in turn, will recognize him as the apex leader,” Idahagbon said.
He added, “Unless and until we know the contents of the agreement, we cannot be talking about the morality of obeying it or not.”
The comments come amid ongoing political tension in Rivers State, as debates continue over the roles and influence of key political actors in the state’s governance.
