BREAKING: Petrol Price Hike Hits Abuja Again as NNPCL Raises Pump Price to ₦875 per Litre Within 24 Hours

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, for the second time within 24 hours, pushing the cost to as high as ₦875 per litre in parts of Abuja.
A survey conducted on Thursday revealed that the latest hike comes barely a day after NNPCL adjusted its pump price from ₦815 to ₦839 per litre on Wednesday. With the new adjustment, petrol prices at NNPCL retail outlets have jumped by ₦60 per litre in less than 24 hours.
Findings showed that the new ₦875 per litre price has taken effect at several NNPCL filling stations across the Federal Capital Territory, including Gwarimpa, Kubwa Express, Wuse Zones 4 and 6, as well as other locations.
Confirming the development, a fuel attendant at one of the affected stations disclosed that the directive to increase the price was received late on Wednesday.
“We were informed last night, but we began selling at ₦875 per litre today (Thursday). Before then, we sold at ₦839, which had just increased from ₦815,” the attendant said, requesting anonymity.
Private fuel marketers have also followed suit. Filling stations operated by Ranoil, Empire Energy and other independent marketers in Abuja were observed selling petrol at prices ranging between ₦899 and ₦900 per litre.
Similarly, MRS filling stations adjusted their pump price upward by ₦100, now dispensing petrol at ₦839 per litre.
The repeated upward review of petrol prices continues to heighten concerns among residents, as Nigerians grapple with rising transportation costs and the broader impact on the cost of living.
