BREAKING: Nigerian Government Warns Against Cash Bouquets Ahead of 2026 Valentine

The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a fresh warning against the use of banknotes for decorative purposes ahead of the 2026 Valentine season.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) reiterated that practices such as arranging naira notes into flower bouquets, money towers, or cash cakes constitute currency abuse and are illegal under Nigerian law.
According to the CBN, the naira is a legal tender meant strictly for transactions and must not be defaced, sprayed, mutilated, or used for ceremonial displays. The bank emphasized that offenders risk facing penalties as stipulated by existing financial regulations.
This warning comes amid the growing trend of extravagant cash displays during celebrations such as weddings, birthdays, and Valentine’s Day, especially on social media.
The apex bank urged Nigerians to show affection and celebrate responsibly without violating currency laws, stressing that protecting the integrity of the naira remains a national duty.
