AFCON 2025: Ighalo Hails Lookman’s Outstanding Form for Super Eagles

Ademola Lookman has continued to light up the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a series of impressive performances, drawing glowing praise from former Super Eagles striker and 2019 AFCON top scorer, Odion Ighalo.
The Atalanta forward has emerged as one of Nigeria’s standout players at the tournament, playing a decisive role in the Super Eagles’ campaign. Lookman has directly contributed to seven goals so far — the highest by any player at the competition.
He has also shown remarkable consistency, finding the back of the net in every match he has featured in at AFCON 2025. The achievement places him in an elite group alongside Morocco’s Brahim Díaz and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah.
Lookman’s brilliance was evident in Nigeria’s emphatic 4-0 win over Mozambique, where he scored once, registered two assists and was named Player of the Match for the second time in the tournament.
Reacting to his performances while speaking as a SuperSport pundit, Ighalo praised Lookman’s intelligence, positioning and composure in front of goal, especially since switching his international allegiance to Nigeria.
“He has been one of the best Super Eagles players for quite some time now and he’s showing it in the game,” Ighalo said.
“What I like about him is his positioning. If he’s not on the wing delivering crosses, he’s always in the box and close to goal. When the chance comes, he takes it. That’s one thing I really like about him. He’s one of the best players in the team.”
Lookman’s form continues to boost Nigeria’s title ambitions as the Super Eagles push for continental glory.
